The Remparts completed today a four-game series on the road by visiting the Olympiques at the Robert-Guertin Centre in Gatineau.
From the first minute of play, the Olympiques opened the score. Alexandre Landreville’s long shot on the ice beats Baribeau under the right leg.
The visitors will then score two goals in just over a minute, Derek Gentile on powerplay and Philipp Kurashev (19th). Both goals were prepared by American Shaun Bily.
Then, before the end of the period, Gatineau replied with three goals in 2 minutes 34 including two in 38 seconds (those of MacEwen (29th) and Landreville again). Shawn Boudrias completes the score at the first twenty with a goal. It should be noted that Evgeny Kiselev came to replace Baribeau after the 3rd goal of the Olympiques. It was 4-2 after 20 minutes.
The Remparts come back in the second period. First of all, Louis-Filip Côté deflects the shot from Christian Huntley. A few minutes later, Igor Larionov Jr. jumped on a free puck to the net. His 5th of the season and it was a tie game.
In the last minute of the second period, the Olympiques take the lead. On the power play, Russian Yakov Trenin scored his 27th. It was 5-4 Gatineau after two periods.
The Remparts demonstrate character and dominate the third period. The opposing goaltender Bellemare stops the first 14 shots on him, but can not save the shot by Andrew Coxhead with 1 minute 32 to play. It was 5-5 after 60 minutes.
The overtime does not make a winner. Kiselev makes some nice saves to keep the score even.
In shootout, each team sends five players. The Olympiques score two (Trenin and Balmas) while only Gentile scored a goal for the Remparts. Final score : Olympiques 6, Remparts 5.
The Remparts suffered a fourth consecutive loss while the Olympiques took a three-point lead over the Remparts to 10th overall.
The next game will be Wednesday, March 15th at the Videotron Centre, while the Chicoutimi Saguenees will be the visitors. The game will begin at 7 pm.
